Question: issue with resetpassword command terminal

Hi,

I have a 2017 Macbook Pro 13 touch bar and the SSD is ciphered with FileVault. Since yesterday, when I turn on the computer a white round sign with a bar appears, and I cannot do anything.

I tried to boot (cmd +R) on recovery partition and I can't decipher the hard drive with the disk utility : my password is not recognized (and I'm sure I entered it correctly).

I also tried to reset the password (which can be done by 'reset password' command) but I got the following logs:

I don't see why this crashed like that. Do you have an idea? Will I be able to recover my data ?

Thanks,

Chris

Have you figured out an answer?

My Macbook Pro 13-inch High Sierra (latest) password stopped working for an inexplicable reason. I have made a fix where I fixed the root login bug of Mac High Sierra (I believe I set a password) and maybe have made a problem with recovery mode. But when I run recovery mode command-R and open a terminal window and run resetpassword as you did, I have the almost exact same Assertion Failure. I seem to be unable to login to my Mac or unlock "Macintosh HD" to reset the password too. When I choose "I forgot my password" option for password reset, it just reboots to the login window again. I seem to be trapped in an endless cycle of denied password logins. How can this happen? This is very unsatisfactory for a long time apple/windows laptop user who never had this problem before!
