Auto correct gone crazy

What is going on lately with my iPad and iPhone keyboard and auto correct? I keep getting these irritating symbols inserted instead of the letter I want. See! Each time I try to type the letter I. This has gone beyond annoying. How do I fix this?

Hi. If you have iOS 11, you need to update to iOS 11.1.2, which is supposed to include a fix for this.

It would help if you updated your Profile, which says iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.2.
