Apple TV app no working with new iOS on iPhone X

I’m currently using the iPhone X with the new Apple TV (non 4K) and the apply tv remote app has become unresponsive. It no longer recognizes my Apple TV where my previous iPhone 7+ had no issues. Not sure if this is related to the new iOS.
