when I take a screen shot I cannot find it saved in the Desktop. The only thing that registers that something has happened is a folder that says mflpro_c1 but no screen shots are in there. I've tried the option to 'save to the Clipboard' but where is

Click on the Dropbox icon in the menu bar. Then click on the right most icon (looks like a nut), then Preferences.

1. Launch the Terminal app on your Mac.
2. At the prompt, copy & paste the following command:
3. defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop
4. Press Enter on your keyboard.
5. Now copy & paste killall SystemUIServer.
6. Press Enter on your keyboard.

To show Clipboard, go to Finder menu > Edit > Show Clipboard

Tread carefully, you can do serious damage in here.

Click on "Parameters" > "General".

While you're there you can change the file format that it produces.

Onyx can change many parameters you never knew existed.

It's very powerful, doing things most people will use the UNIX Terminal for.

Some changes require a Restart.

Just use it only if you know exactly what you're doing.

Click the Settings button in Dropbox, go to Import and unblock Share screenshots using Dropbox.

It is in Applications/Utilities.

If you followed the instructions I posted they should now be saved to your Desktop. I'm not sure why they are still going to Dropbox.
