Lost all files

I just upgraded to Mac OS High Sierra and ALL of my Documents are gone.

I do have a backup disk attached to my computer and I believe it automatically backs up daily.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.4)

Are you sure you lost all of your Documents? It sounds like you may have activated Desktop and Documents on your iCloud Drive. Read: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support for details.
