Spotlight search stops working sporadically after iOS 11

On my iPhone 7, occasionally when I try to start a spotlight search, I type in my search term(s) and then hit the search button and nothing happens. Not only that, but when I cancel the search the keyboard stays on the screen, even after hitting the home button, and the only way I can get the keyboard to go away is to open another app then hit the home button again. However in order for the spotlight search to start working again I have to reboot the phone. After 11.1.2 I did an iPhone restore in iTunes and set it up as a new device, but the problem keeps cropping up sporadically.
