MBP with second display - app on wrong montor

I use my laptop at work connected to another monitor. But when I get home, the MBP is not connected to a secondary display. When I open a few of my apps, they try to open on the second display - which isn't connected. I can see the app running, and when I press F3 - I can see that it is on another display (that doesn't exist). How can I get the app moved to my laptop screen. Remember, there are no other monitors connected to my laptop when I'm at home. The app remembers a screen - that doesn't actual exist when I get home.

Hi cwwalker,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities. It looks like no one has responded to your question yet. Here are some questions that might help the community suggest some troubleshooting steps:
  1. At the end of the work day, what method do you use to shutdown or put your MacBook Pro to sleep?
  2. Do you disconnect the external display before or after sleep / shutdown?
  3. When you're at home, does your MacBook Pro show that your external display is still connected in System Preferences > Display?
Cheers.
