Split screen using iOS 11 on iPad mini2

Hi. Before the update I was able to use the split screen/side by side feature on my iPad. After the update to iOS 11 I can do the slide screen option but not the split screen/side by side. When I swipe up or down in the slide screen nothing happens. Is my iPad mini to no longer able to do the side-by-side or split screen for multitasking?

An iPad Mini 2 was never capable of split screen view ONLY slide over.

This has been true since iOS 9.

The only iPads capable of using the Split Screen view are:

All iPad Pro models.

iPad Air 2

iPad Mini 4
