Entering the correct code but iPhone disabled

Hi,

So my husbands iPhone 7 Plus run out of battery, after charging the phone he went to enter his pin and the screen looked slightly different (usually has fixed space for 6digits, now it appeared you can enter all sorts of combinations and you have to press ok after when usually after entering the code the phone would just u lock). He entered his pin and clicked on the ok and his phone ended up disabled for a minute, we tried again after that minute, again being 100% sure we are entering the correct code and it locked us out for 4 minutes. We tried to soft reset the phone and that put us on 15 minutes being locked out. At this point we are scared to try again, phone has important information which we are not sure has managed to back up so we could just erase the phone.. why is it doing it when the code is clearly correct and what can we do to sort it?

TIA

Hi

If you had iCloud backup turned on before problems then when you charge an iphone

It will be automatically backed up to iCloud Over your wifi.

You need to restore iPhone using your pc.

Turn iPhone off Make sure your pc is running the latest iTunes 12.7

Connect lead to USB on your pc.

Press & hold just the power button down on iPhone don't let go Connect lead to iPhone keep power button pressed down until pc sees iPhone Then wait for restore.

You may need to do this more than once Before it works.

Cheers
