Office 2016 requires 10.10 (Yosemite) -- you do not need MacOS Sierra, just Yosemite (10.10). I know this, I am running Office 2016 on a Mac laptop with 10.10 (Yosemite). However it does require 4 GB RAM, so 2 GB RAM is not enough as the previous poster pointed out. There is no way around the 4 GB requirement.
