iCloud upload paused

I have an iPhone 6 64GB and I'm trying to upload my photos to iCould. I've upgraded my iCould storage to 200GB.

I activated photos to back up from Settings>User ID at top>iCloud>Photos>On. It started to back up but now it's stuck with the message "Upload paused for 1,622 items, Not enough iPhone storage".

The reason I was backing up my photos to iCloud was because I was running out of storage. I have used up 63.5GB of 64GB storage.

How can to resolve this?

iPhone 6, iOS 11.1

I actually found the answer from a post back in 2015. Turns out, you need to have a certain amount of free space in your iPhone for it to sync with iCloud. I deleted a whole bunch of apps and got down to the bare minimum, now it's working fine.

iCloud "Low Disk Space", not syncing photos

Thanks Eric. I've done that, "Optimise iPhone Storage" has a tick in front of it. Still no progress in uploading Photos.

I turned off iCould uploads last year since I had only the free 5GB and it kept reminding me saying it's full. This is the first time I've turned it back on now with the added extra storage.

Phone is also doing an "iCould Back up" simultaneously, that's progressing slowly by the looks. I wonder if this is a memory issue.
