iTunes restore made all my pictures go blank

I recently restored my iphone 7 from an itunes backup and all my pictures are blank. Everything else restored except for all my pictures. All the picture information is there like where it was taken, when it was taken, and if it is a video it tells me the duration but is all blank. Even all my albums are still there. Theres just a bunch of blank boxes in my camera roll. I really want my pictures back any suggestions as to what I should do?

Hi there Alishagursahaney!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities and thanks for asking your question about restoring your iPhone 7 from an iTunes backup and having all your photos show up as blank. I love having my photo library on my iPhone and it's my pleasure to help you out.

I'd like you to first go to iCloud.com and see if your photos are showing up there as complete photos and videos. If so, that's great, we'll be able to turn on iCloud photo library on your iPhone and the photos should repopulate.

Settings > Photos > iCloud Photo Library (switch on). If your photo library is larger than your iPhone, then also select Optimize iPhone Storage.

If you don't see the photos showing up on your iCloud account, then let's try to restore your iPhone from iTunes one more time and see if your photos come back this time.

Best wishes.

Hi Alisha.

There are a few things we'd like you to check.

1. If you go to the Photos app on your Mac, do you see your photos and videos there?
2. How much storage is available on your iPhone, and how much is being used by Photos? See

How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

3. Please provide us the iOS version and the macOS version.

Thank you.
