Why does apple not allow FaceID to work in Landscape mode?

I use my car in landscape as my GPS and traffic checker (eg. Apple Maps, Waze, Google Maps) and it is incredibly annoying to have to park my car safely, un-mount my iPhone, re-orient it in Portrait mode for FaceID, put it back in the mount and then drive off. It is annoying enough to have to do FaceID in the first place as TouchID could be done without having to take your eyes off the road.

Does anyone know if this will be addressed in a future iOS release?

We would have no clue what Apple's plans are for the future as this is a user to user only forum. I would as welafever guessed above believe this has to do with the IR camera required for Face ID to work. I haven’t tried doing Face ID sideways but it would unfortunately defeat the purpose of being able to do Face ID in portrait mode as well. Haveing one or the other is not the sort of solution I’m looking for.
