How to Delete Pages Docs from iPad Only

Before IOS 11 I had the option to "Delete File from All Devices" or "Delete File From This Device."

I cannot find this option with the new file manager. Anytime I delete a Pages Document from my iPad it now deletes it across all my devices. This was easy before the update.

How can I now just delete a file from the device?

Hi Disney321,

With the new Files app you can move your documents to the On this iPhone folder and then delete it without deleting it from all your other devices. The iPhone User Guide linked below has the steps on how to move your files between folders:

Organize files and folders - iPhone User Guide

Copy, duplicate, rename, move, or delete a file or a folder. Touch and hold the file or folder, then choose an option.

To duplicate, move, or delete multiple files or folders, tap Select, tap your selections, then tap an option at the bottom of the screen.

Some options may not be available depending on what’s selected; for example, you can’t delete an app library (a folder labeled with the app name).

Move a file or a folder with drag and drop. Touch and hold an item until it lifts up, then drag and drop it into a different folder or location. As you drag, User uploaded file appears wherever you can drop the item. To move multiple items, touch and hold an item, drag it slightly, then continue holding it while you tap additional items with another finger. To open a folder or location while touching and holding a selection, tap the folder or location with another finger.

Note: You can’t move an app library, which is a folder labeled with the app name.

Hello Disney321,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that when you delete a Pages document it deletes across all of your devices. What your describing sounds like you have iCloud for Pages enabled which would delete your Pages documents from all your devices using the same iCloud account. You can disabled iCloud for Pages under Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Pages.

Pages for iOS (iPhone, iPod touch): Delete a document

Important: If you turned on iCloud for Pages (in Settings on your iOS device), deleting a document from iCloud removes it from iCloud and from all other devices and Mac computers that use the same iCloud account.

Best Regards.

Jeremy - Thanks for the reply.

Just for clarity, this is something I could before do on the document level. The message to "delete from all devices or just from this device" appeared anytime I deleted a Pages doc.

Are you saying since the update, this feature is now gone and I have to: 1) Go into settings and disable iCloud for Pages 2) Go back and delete Page docs that I just want to remove from iPad, then 3) Go back into settings to enable iCloud for Pages to work on new docs?

If you have any sway with product engineers please tell them customers like it when processes go from "complicated to simple." Processes that go from "Simple to Complicated" are going in the wrong direction ;-)

Thanks again for your help. I'll use your instructions and hope they fix this soon.
