Why there are several folders containing pictures?

Hi,

I connected my iphone 7 to the pc computer, and goto Computer\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM

Why there are several folder (101apple, 102apple, 103apple) in that directory containing pictures.

I want to delete all the pictures that created on 2016, what should I do?
