Why should I install the latest iOS update on my iPhone5 and my iPad? The summary only says it is to address problems with iPhone X.
Last iOS update had horrible impacts on the operation of my iPhone and consequently impacted my business. Makes me wonder if Apple really wants business users of its devices.
Most updates also include security updates. If the update was only for the iPhone X, it would only have been pushed to those devices..
It's up to you. There are often security updates bundled in with iOS updates, even on minor ones, which this is. It's advisable to stay up to date, but that's entirely up to you.

After last iOS update, which royally screwed up the operation of my iPhone5 (power draining to zero in an instant, even while it was plugged in to charge -- that is a significant problem for a phone being relied on for business; long delay between typing and the letters showing up on the screen; the touch screen becoming numb to the touch for short periods; etc), I am unsure if I can continue to rely on my iPhone any longer for my business. I was planning on replacing this iPhone5 in February but I am considering switching to a more business-reliable brand in advance of my third anniversary of having this phone.
I have also become very leery about relying on Apple to debug the iOS update in advance of sending it out.

If you are referring to iOS 11.1.2 the lead part was for the iPhone X but if you have an iPhone 5 you cannot be running iOS 11 anyway.
