Podcast not marked played in iTunes for Windows

I am running iTunes 12.7.1.14 on Windows 10 Professional. I subscribe to podcasts from iTunes and play them from my desk while I work. I use the Unplayed tab in the player and it presents me with all the podcasts I have not played. It used to be that after a podcast was played, iTunes would mark it played and it would be removed from the Unplayed view and be deleted the next day.

I keep my libraries on a non system disk. Recently, I had to reinstall Windows and re-pointed iTunes to the library. I have done this before with no problems, but now, when a podcast is played, it shows in the status bar as fully listened to, but it is not marked as played. This clutters up the listing and while not an insurmountable problem, it is still annoying.

How can I cause iTunes to marked podcasts as played?
