if memory serves me correct i noticed this (the corrupt file & the file name being the same as it was a few years ago) as well after an update.
my recommendation - whatever cloud service you use (iCloud, dropbox, google drive, one drive, etc.) - create a "Software" folder in the local folder that syncs with the online servers for the cloud service you prefer (if you dont subscribe or use one, they all offer a free account with a few GB of storage. I prefer dropbox - but any will work. inside the software folder create a "Quicktime 7 Pro" folder. In the folder save these items:
- .dmg install file you just downloaded from Apple
- print the Apple Quicktime 7 web page as an .html and/or .pdf
- print the email with your registration code to .pdf and/or drag the message into the same folder - the message should create an .eml file - if you use outlook for mac it will also be a .eml file, however if you use both i would save a copy of the email from both clients
- after typing in your registration code and it adds the "Pro" symbol take a screenshot of the preference window with the information and put that in your folder
- sounds like a lot of work but it's literally a minute of clicking, saving, dragging & dropping - and now you all have everything you need for this problem the next time you encounter it
i own 4 macs and I am an impulse buyer. i buy all sorts of software and its frustrating to need to troubleshoot an issue with the product and not have what i need which results in a half hour search for these items ... often times the .dmg file saved will work fine, but if you are installing after a new Mac OS release there is likely a newer version you may have to hunt for - but having the .html or .pdf copy of the page you downloaded it from will make finding the download link accessible to you from anywhere anytime should oyu need it.
this is a one-off situation since b/c its an actual mac legacy software product that they don't have in App store - but i find myself needing it within a month of every release of a new OS - i like it and hope it continues to work - i really wish they would just make QT that is baked in have all the 7 pro features incorporated or an option to enter a QT 7 option in the preferences menu so its all in one place - but that will never happen.
now that i think about it, i bought a $30 .mpeg2 codec from apple to upgrade QT 7 Pro ... now i need to go find that and add it to my "software" folder.
Elmedia Player by Etima Software is a good paid option in the Mac app store that offers most of the features that both QT versions offer built into one program that will be available to you on-demand for multiple machines. if you pay for a Setup subscription ($9/mo) it has this and some other Eltima Software applications free within their available downloads. i bought form the mac store and now i pay for a setup subscription to try several items ... so don make that mistake if you try it and like it. setapp is a cool subscription to try some very powerful software a lot of which i had no idea existed.
if you dont want to buy anything whatsoever - VLC Player is free and will play anything. I find Elmedia to be a more user friendly layout for my normal workflows when QT will not do the trick.
hope you QT 7 pro works properly. sorry for rambling - just thought i would share what works for me and let oyu know i ran into the same corrupt file issues after an install.
here are the 3 links you need for your QT 7 Pro software folder:
