Move one frame at a time

I have the 2nd gen Apple TV and I remember with the first generation Apple TV you could pause and move one frame at a time and also clear the time bar out of the way to get a clear and uninstructed view of the image on the tv. I’m having trouble trying to do the same with my 2nd gen Apple TV. What am I doing wrong? I can’t figure out ho to move frame by frame or fast forward in slow motion and clear the paused bar from the bottom to have a clear view of a paused image. Thanks for your help.
