Can i use a wireless charging dock with a lightning cable charging the phone at the same time in my car?

I'm adding a wireless charging dock to my car but might have an issue as I have to plug in the lightning cable to the USB port on my dash to listen to music with full steering wheel controls. The USB connection provides a trickle charge to the phone when I'm using it and I'm worried about having two charging sources charging the phone at the same time. Anyone tried doing that? I don't want to find out the hard way (burning my phone out) that it doesn't work, but I hope it does. iPhone 8, iOS 11.2 beta 4 and a 2009 Pontiac G5 that doesn't have Bluetooth music streaming capabilities.

I haven't got the car charger yet so I will look at the instructions carefully when it arrives. I know this is a unique use case scenario so I'm proceeding with caution. Might just have to use the Aux cable in my car for music and forego the steering wheel controls. Or maybe they'll work anyway, I've never used the Aux input before. Time to do some testing after work.

Thanks.
