deleting photos from SD card after importing to pc
There used to be a facility for my iMac to delete all the photos on my SD card after I had imported them onto the iMac. Cannot now find that facility, has it disappeared or is it hidden somewhere?

The box for "Delete items after import" is in the upper right hand corner of the Import window. It is only available in the Import window and is only selectable just prior to Import.
The "Delete after import" option may or may not be available in the Image Capture app, depending on the camera or device and which App the images are being imported into.
Personally to be extra safe with those irreplaceable memories. I backup my images in multiple places, periodically replace and archived my camera cards and never ever allow iPhoto or Photos to Deleted Images from my Camera's, Camera Cards or iOS Devices.

Another way to delete them from the SD card is to simply double click on the SD icon on your desktop and drag the folder with the photos to the trash. Empty trash before ejecting the SD card (and after you're sure you have the photos in a safe place).

That was what I was looking for but it just was not there. As far as I remember it was after the OS update which introduced photos in place of iphotos that the option to delete from the SD card disappeared.
The "Delete items after Import" box is only available if there are new images on the camera to be Imported.
FWIW, the screenshot that I posted above with the "Delete items after Import" box showing, is a current screenshot that I just took while Importing images into the latest versions of macOS and Photos from my camera.
Import photos from a camera or phone - Apple Support
It's been awhile but I seem to remember Photo's asking if I wanted to delete the originals from the card when I imported them. I rarely used that option as I believe that function is best handled by the camera itself.
Hi Mike. Thanks for your response but have a problem with that. The SD card comes from my 'trail camera' on which there does not appear to be a delete function. Unfortunately this SD card and my normal camera SD card are different dimensions so not compatable. My only solution is to borrow my wife's camera and use that to delete the photos which is bit long winded when the photo app used to offer me the option to clear the card as soon as the photos had been downloaded.

As I mentioned to a previous responder I do not have the option to use my camera for the deletion as it uses a different size card. I di have the option to use my wife's camera but that is a *** if the delete option is available on my pc (as it was)).
I will next time look at using the double click on the SD icon o pn the pc and see if that works for me. many thanks one and all, its nice to know people are willing to try to help.
