fonts and fontbook

I'm having trouble with font installation. I'm using Adobe CC. I installed fonts manually in the user folder. They can be used by photoshop but Illustrator does not see them. Also Font Book does not seem to be recognizing any fonts at all. I start it up and it sees no fonts apparently.
