airport express without airport extreme card

I have an iMac G4/1.25 17-Inch "FP" with Airport Extreme capability but NO Airport Extreme card.
I just want to stream iTunes music to the stereo buying Airport Express ( no internet wireless connection needed).
Is this possible or I have to install the Airport Extreme card inside the iMac?
Thanks
piero

ziopiero,

There are probably ways to do this but you would have to be wired via Ethernet cable(s)... and apparently you are already connected to the Internet via an ethernet cable. You would then need a hub, router, or a switch etc. if you don't already have one of these. If you stereo is in another room, then your ethernet cable would also have to be connected there.

Your easiest, and probably cheapest method, is to purchase the Airport Extreme Card. You can even buy these refurbished from the Apple Store under "Deals" and are very reasonable.

I'm in the same situation, I have a 17" FP iMac without an airport card. I am hardwired to a D-Link DI-624 wireless router and I have the Airport Express configured as a wireless client on my existing network. Works fine except for the seemingly random airtunes dropouts that lots of folks experience. The only tricky thing is that the first go round, you have to wire the AE into your router (or directly to your mac using a crossover cable) to set it up.
