Is this Java update safe to do?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), I use an external 2TB drive for TM.

It is as safe as the Java 8 update is itself. The update was triggered from within the already installed Java Control panel. Quit any running applications that may be using Java (to close any open files) before continuing with the update.
