Want a BLACK keyboard for my Mac!

I like Mac keyboards but I hate that they are white only. They look filthy within days, and then when you clean them you have to be so careful not to get any moisture whatsoever on it or it will short.


However, any non-Mac keyboards do not have the exact same key placement. What's particularly important to me is the placement of the Command, Alt and Control keys. I use these intuitively, and have been for years. Other keyboards have a Function key down there, and it's all a bit different.


Are there ANY decent keyboards that have the same key placement as Mac keyboards in that respect? And it has to have black keys! ;-)

if you can get by with a US layout, colorware will custom paint you a new magic keyboard with keypad in your choice of solid or metallic colors, matte or gloss finishes, with warranty. Custom painted in three weeks ARO for US$259 plus shipping.

They appear to have two choices of solid black and one metallic. For about US$30 more, you can have space gray guaranteed to match space Gray Macs.

I ended up getting the Matias Wireless Aluminum Keyboard, which has black keys. It's amazing! It is exactly like an Apple keyboard, but less expensive, AND the bonus is that one 5 hour charge lasts roughly a year! No batteries to replace, or regular recharging. And you can pair it to 4 devices, so you can use it to type on your iPhone, iPad, etc. Love it. :-)

The "SteelSeries M800 - Mechanical Keyboard" appears to offer several

good features with quality; the key-switches are durable by design. And

key-caps for macOS & windows are included for you to swap them over.

and is better hardware than most.


Or you could consider ordering up a 'different kind of black' Apple key-

board & mouse... works with iphone, to reference picture one in 9-to-5

story from last year, about this item:


The ColorWare company will custom paint products and had offered

Apple keyboards & mouse items 'new-in-box' with your choice color.

So it would seem they probably won't accept an outsider's Apple K/B.

ColorWare may delight in painting a wired USB keyboard (from their stock) to suit.

Or get some spray paint and test your detailing &/or paint masking skills at home.
