Can't add song from files to iTunes Library?

So how I've always added my mp3 files to itunes going to File > Add File to Library > Clicking on the song > then hitting open and it would always pop up in my list of songs in itunes. But now I'm trying to add a few songs and none of them are popping up. What can I do to fix this? Also I’ve tried just dragging the file into iTunes which doesn’t work either.

iPhone 7, iOS 11.0.2

I can think of three possibilities:

The files are in a format that iTunes cannot import. (So check which format they are in)
They have been imported, but the tags (that contain the track name, album title and artist information is wrong or not filled in. Look in the Recently Added Playlist. Are they in there?
They have been imported but they are in a different part of the Library to the one you're looking in. (So where are you looking?) If you're looking in Songs, but the files are labelled as Media Type = Podcasts, or Audiobooks, you would have to look in that section.

There may be some sort of issue with the format of the file that iTunes doesn't like. If so it will fail silently. Place a copy of a problem file into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder in the media folder. It will either be added to the library or moved into a Not Added folder. You won't know what the issue is, but if it goes into Not Added you'll know for certain that iTunes doesn't like the file.
