HEVC Movies Being Converted to H.264

So I have been shooting 4k/60 movies on my nice shiny new iPhone X and they look great. However getting the movies off the phone to edit on a MBP or iPad seems to be problematic, the phone insists on converting the movies to H.264 even when I have made the following settings:

Settings - Camera - Formats - High Efficiency (so i'm shooting in HEVC)

Settings - Photos - Keep Originals (so I should be transferring the original HEVC files regardless)

OS - iOS 11.1.2 and High Sierra 10.13.1

I have tried using Airdrop, Dropbox, Saving to Shared iCloud files, etc. but the iPhone insists on converting to 4k/60 H.264. The videos also do not appear in my photo stream.

Both the MBP and the iPad can play and edit HEVC 4k/60 files using Quicktime, iMovie and LumaFusion I have tested them by transferring the files using a 3rd part app (iExporer).

If I drop the frame rate to 30fps everything works fine, 4k/30 HEVC movies can be transferred using Airdrop and they appear in my photo stream.

I don't understand why Apple seem to be placing a restriction on the video files i can transfer. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

Many thanks.
