Top menu bar turns red

Hi all!

Full Specs:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, late 2015)

3.3 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M395 2GB

macOS High Sierra (v 10.13.1)

(two 1080p monitors attached via thunderbolt)

I'm having an issue: whenever I turn on my mac or switch users, the right portion of my top menu bar turns red. So far I haven't noticed any performance issues, and it usually goes away after a few minutes, but it does worry me a bit. Any idea what could be causing it?

I have two different systems running 10.13.2 a newer MBP and a 2014 iMac 5k. This red bar thing started happening with High Sierra and happens when you transition between having multiple screens. It seems to go away on it's own and I am sure a NVRAM/PRAM or SMC reset will clear it up but it doesn't address the root bug that is causing this red tool bar. How does Apple become aware of MacOS bugs and determine if they will work on them or not?

Please go step by step and test.

1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

3. Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21875?locale=en_US

Once in Safe Mode, click the “Restart” button at the bottom.

4. If this doesn’t help, please run EtreCheck and post the report here.

https://etrecheck.com

Click”Download EtreCheck” button, open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” .

Paste it when you reply.
