Siri only says “sorry can you say that again”

When I activate Siri with the home button, Siri responds “sorry can you say that again“ before I can say anything. Dictation works so I know this is not an issue with the microphone. I’ve tried turning Siri on off and it has not resolve the issue.

On November 15, 2017 with a fairly new iPhone X I encountered the same problem. After spending a lot of time on the phone with a higher level of tech-support the only thing that resolved the problem was completely wiping the phone restoring it to new conditions. I was then able to return a back up that had been made with my previous phone.

The problem repeated itself in late December and I’ve since spent more time on the phone with tech support who say that the current solution is now to wipe the phone to factory condition settings and load back my apps one by one Until I find the app that could be creating the problem.

That of course is totally unacceptable given the level of work that would be involved in reconfiguring everything including the Alexa app Google Home, devices that work with Apple home, bank accounts etc. it’s just something I’m not willing to do. I will forgo using Siri and concentrate on the future more with Google Home and Amazon Alexa

I purchased an iPhone 8+ 8 weeks ago.

Siri has never worked. Simply responds 'Sorry, could you say that again?'

I have spent three days on-line and at a genius bar. The later replaced the operating system but I am still in the same position.

I haven't any more time (or patience) to waste on this. All I want now is to somehow record that this has occurred and I have been sold a faulty product. Usually one gets a follow up to give feedback on the service but not this time!

Can you give me a link to where I can record this?

Steve - I suspect you may be correct about an Ap causing the ‘sorry could you say that again’.

I have spent over 15 hours on- line and 2 ‘genius’ bar sessions and each time after restoring the same thing happens. There is no way to establish which ap and Apple doesn’t have a clue.

I have another appointment this Thursday and will be returning phone for a refund.
