Watch loses cellular connection when leave home

My husband recently got an Apple Watch. We got it activated and SOMETIMES it works, but most of the time, when we leave the house, the red X indicating loss of cellular service comes on. It doesn’t disappear when we are out. My iPhone (not linked to his watch) shows cellular service and both our iPads show cellular service but not the Watch. He got this so he wouldn’t have to carry his phone with him. Please advise.

thank you,

Robin

Hi Robin

If your husband's Apple Watch experiences issues or delays in connecting to the cellular network when out of range of his iPhone and trusted Wi-Fi networks, then I suggest that, in the first instance, he contacts his carrier for assistance.

If the issue persists, then, depending on his carrier's advice, I suggest that he next contacts Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
