How to view iPhone photo gps location?

I now have a reason to want to view the GPS location of some of my iPhone photos.

At some point in the past, I'm sure I remember a toggle I could use to turn off recording of location data, and I would have turned that off for privacy concerns for my everyday images; but now I'm trying to keep track of some things I'm shooting on my travels more precisely.

I have looked at some recent images shot on my phone with Photos app on the phone, while Location Services were turned on, and I cannot see any GPS while viewing in Photos App, or after import via iPhoto or Photos, whether checking through info via Finder, iPhoto, Photos, or Adobe Bridge CC (which is the only one of these that shows a even a place to see GPS but of course it is blank).

So: is there a place to toggle a switch to save this info when the photos are taken that needs to be turned on? Or a toggle to view data already there that I am missing?

iOS 11.1, iPhone 5S

MBP running El Capitan, and using Preview 8.1, iPhoto 9.6.1, Bridge CC 6.2.0.179, or Photos 1.5

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

You are way behind - Photos is not at version 3.0 - I'm not sure how Photos 1.5 handled locations but in the current software you click on places in the sidebar to see your photos by location - to see the location of a specific photo in moments get info the the location is shown in the info window

There is nothing in Photos to turn location on or off - if it is in the photoEXIF?OPTC data then you will see it in the info window

Photos does not provide the actual GPS data - this script will get it - Script: Extract the Numerical GPS Values Using an Apple Script - or you can see it by exporting the photo and using Preview to view the location

as to iPhone operation it is best to ask in the iPhone forum for your version of IOS

In all the Mac software--iPhoto and Photos--I only see an option to assign locations to the images; so the problem seems to be with the phone, as there is no location already connected to the image, as best as I can see.

So: where to look on the phone to turn this option on/off? This is still a feature I only rarely want to take advantage of, but I do want actual GPS numbers, rather than pins on a map, for sharing/reporting locations.

Is there any reason to think the problem is with the version of Photos? If not, I've no need to move to High Sierra, and my campus tech support are not ready for that.
