Force kill all apps on iPhone X

On iPhones with a home button you would hold down the power button until you get the prompt to shutdown at which point you press down on the home button until the prompt disappears and you’re back to your home screen. I have done this many times to kill everything when I noticed that my battery was constantly discharging and showing the same usage as standby even if I wasn’t using it for hours. I have no idea how to achieve the same result on an iPhone X. And I hate having to reboot the phone to get the battery discharge to stop because of some app that is hosing the phone! 😡

Your procedure doesn't kill everything. In fact it kills nothing. The only way to kill all apps on any phone is one at a time. And it is generally pointless to do that. When you double-press the HOME button you see a list of apps that have been used since the last time they were cleared. NONE of them are running. Most of them are not even in memory; they are only apps that have been used at some time in the past. See: Daring Fireball: Public Service Announcement: You Should Not Force Quit Apps on iOS

I’m sorry but I disagree with your assessment as the previous method worked for me. The battery usage and standby values would stop being mirror reflections of each other and would start to reflect actual usage on iPhones with a home button or iPads with one. What exactly that combination of power button and home button presses did I can’t say with any precision since I’m not an Apple engineer but the results were reproducible and consistent. There seems to be no way of doing this on an iPhone X.

You should go to iBooks and download the iOS 11 for iPhone X. How to do many of the things you're used to doing on an iPhone with a home button will become clear.

If you would like to force close apps on iPhone X, with any app open, put your finger on the app from the bottom of the screen, keep your finger there and swipe half way up the iPhone X screen until you see the most recently used apps appear side by side. Remove your finger and then put it back on any of the apps until you see a - sign in upper left corner. You can now either touch the - sign or swipe up each app to fully close them.
