Iphone X Facial Recognition Not enough?

why do i still have to swipe my screen after using face recognition on my iphone x? Shouldnt that be enough to unlock the phone and open the homescreen?

This feels weird. I literally see the lock switch to Unlock and then I still have to swipe to unlock? Very messy.

Probably because many times you don't really want to unlock the iPhone and directly go to the home screen, you may just want to view your notifications.

It would be annoying to have the phone automatically go to the home screen when you just want to view notifications:

Because that's how Apple chose to do it. I suspect it's a two-fold security measure. One, it ensures you really want to get into your phone. And two, for those who have their phones screen set to either lock after 10 minutes or never, it's a battery saving measure. It's really not very difficult to look at your phone and swipe up at the same time.

You could have just referred him to the feedback site without the condescending "it's really not that difficult" comment. That's definitely not what these forums are for.
