The black transition with stars in iMovie is corrupted for my computer.

The black transition with stars is corrupted. It shows a distorted picture instead of black with stars. But it's OK when I place a title on it. I am working on a duplicate project. The original doesn't have this problem. Even when I click for a fresh black-with-stars transition. It seems odd: the problem exists on the duplicate but not on the original in the Timeline. Do you know the how to rectify it, and what's the cause? It happened shortly after I used an external track pad to replace the original broken one. I wonder if it's because of the external track pad. Greetings kiatmin1,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like the problem with the transition is isolated only to the duplicate. Since the transition still works on the original, something that may have happened in the duplication process. Are you able to use that transition in a different new project? One thing you can do is create a new library to see if it is the transition itself or the duplicate project. I would recommend you read this article and use it to help troubleshoot the issue.

6. Create a new library

You can isolate issues with libraries by creating a new, empty library when opening iMovie. This demonstrates that iMovie is working as expected with a new library. Then, you can open and close your libraries one at a time until you can to reproduce the issue and identify an affected library.

To create a new library, first quit iMovie. Then, option-click the iMovie application icon in the Dock and click New to create a new library.

Hi,

What you are referring to is a background rather than a transition.

From what you say, this sounds like a project related issue because it works in the original project but not in the duplicate.

So, try making another duplicate of your original and see if that cures it.

You also can try creating a new project, and then going back to the duplicate and doing an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, of the media in it, and Edit/Paste it into the newly created project.

If the above doesn't work, try closing iMovie and reopening it while holding down the Option and Command keys, and then selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears.

I have fixed the problem by duplicating this corrupted project. The black-with-stars background here is OK, like the original. So I just changed the background. It's strictly an isolated corruption, fortunately.
