Last week, Photo forced me to update my library which is 118gigs. I did so but had a spinning wheel for 5 days. No progress bar showed. I finally had to force quit it. Then I thought to rebuild the library and I held option-command while opening Photos. But the repair window didn't appear.
I can't open my photo library and I'm getting frustrated. Any advice would be welcome.

Yes, I'm using Yosemite and no, nothing changed.
I fixed my problem by deleting the plist file for photos and then restarting. All is good now.
You state you have Yosemite - is that correct? What changed last week to cause this?
Note Photos never "forces" a library update - users trigger library updates by changes or upgrades in software

I am an expert user and I can't explain why my Photos stopped working. All of a sudden upon opening my Photos, I got the welcome screen (see attached) and I clicked on "getting started".
