thunderbolt display cable broken/possible solution

Hello,

Was wondering, I've got on my thunderbolt 27 screen cable bottom broken. I was wondering, will be possible to use the screen as before connected to the computer if I buy a new thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable and connect it from the back of the screen? Will it still work as a screen for my laptor or I need to fix the internal one?
