iPhone X flashlight battery usage without open it

The built in battery monitor shows that flashlight uses 6-7% of the battery without turning it on for a second. It won’t increase or decrease, just constantly there for days now.

What is this?

I'm pretty sure it is a bug that does not affect everyone but I have seen a few other people complaining about the same issue. There are 2 different attention features, 1 is Require attention for Face ID to unlock your iPhone, the other is the one is Attention Aware Features that checks to see if your looking at the phone before dimming the display or lowering alert volume. The latter is the one I turned off and it fixed my problem. It is defiantly some bug with the TrueDepth camera that I'm sure Apple will fix soon. I'm an Apple Consultant so I know quite a bit more than an average user and calling Apple support will not help if Apple has not said anything about this issue publicly because the support guys will not know about it.

Do you have your iPhone set to flash LED for notifications, mine was showing the flashlight using quite a bit of the battery without ever turning on the flashlight, then I realized that I had it set to flash LED on notifications and after I turned it off, the battery usage has dropped quite a bit. I still show the flashlight using 13% with it out being used at all now. Hopefully Apple will address this sometime soon or maybe someone has figured this out? I'm using the iPhone X 256GB

I have figured out what was causing it on my iPhone X, in settings under Face ID & Passcode, the Attention Aware Features was the problem, I turned it off and I am no longer showing Flashlight eating up a bunch of battery. The Attention Aware Features is the thing that makes the TrueDepth camera check for attention before dimming the display or lowering the volume of alerts. I am assuming this is some type of bug because I did not have this issue before 11.2

If you are indeed an Apple Consutlant (whatever that may be), then you of all people would know Apple NEVER publicly acknowledges issues, unless they are significant and in the press and even then, they're pretty quiet about anything they are working on. But if I were the OP, I'd absolutely bring this to Apple's attention so it is on their radar. Anytime an issue is brought forward to Apple Support, if the support representative can't solve it, it is elevated to a higher level.

What are you talking about? This is a user to user technical support forum. Apple has NEVER responded to a post here and they never will. For an Apple Consultant (?), you don't seem that well versed in how this all works. Apple engineers don't read these threads and they too are prohibited from responding on this forum. They'd actually lose their job if they did. So my advice to reach out to Apple was not only good advice, but the RIGHT advice because from this thread, Apple will never know there is an issue. If the OP doesn't want to call Apple, they should at least use this link to let Apple know of the issue they are having with the battery percentages being used by something that is not being used.

In using this link Apple will hear from the OP. From this thread they absolutely will not.

I wasn't saying Apple had to have Tim Cook hold a press conference for them to have publicly acknowledged the issue, just someone from Apple replying to the OP saying that they are aware of this and are working on it would be fine, and yes that has happened before. I was posting a solution for the OP to try since I was having the same issue and it fixed it for me. You posting on here that he should call Apple is really not helping anyone. I am part of the Apple Consultants Network, here is were you can go learn what it is: https://consultants.apple.com/us/ . I will not be responding to anything else you post because feeding a troll is not a good idea. Hopefully the OP has been able to fix his problem or he sees my reply and is able to fix the issue for now like I was able to do.

There are no Apple stores here in Hungary, just premium resellers and service partners. So i took my phone to one of those and it was ridiculous.

I have two problems, this 'torch' battery drain and sometimes 3D touch stop working. They did a full restore and told me everything is OK now. Of course it's not ok, i've tried this before a couple of times and the 3D touch seems hardware related, because nothin helped.

I'll use that feedback link, thank you.

Your welcome, I hope it fixes your problem. If your having 3D Touch hardware issues they really should replace it under the warranty. Call this number, 800–692–775. Tell them you have had a Apple service provider restore it and the problem is still there, be persistent with them and if they say they can not replace it ask for whoever is higher up. Sometimes being an obnoxious customer will help you get things done. Good luck, hope everything gets sorted out qui

You and I are on opposites sides of the universe. The advice to be an obnoxious customer is often not good advice when dealing with Apple. The old saying, Honey Attracts More Bees, comes to mind. I have friends who work as support for Apple and they constantly tell me they don't go out of their way to help obnoxious customers, but they surely work hard to help someone who is nice.

My point was if they give him a hard time which I don’t expect he could be more forceful but I have had some of my customers call Apple support, then basically were given the run around and ended up no better than where they started before they called. Apple has wonderful customer service reps but there will always be the very few exceptions, it is unavoidable. Look, we both posted here initially to try and help the OP, can we just squash the arguing between each other. I apologize for anything I’ve said that offended you.
