ipad 2 no airplay after upgrade to 9.3.5

Hi all! Ive had a ipad2 now for years and its run like a dream until now. My problem is that the apps i was using on it had twisted my arm into upgrading to iOS 9.3.5 and thats where the problem began. I now cannot airplay at all. The airplay button doesn't appear nothing. I have 3 appletvs that i could stream to before the upgrade atv2, atv3 and atv4 . Now i realise that i probably won't get any joy from the atv2 but the other 2? Has apple stopped giving iPad 2 the airplay option? and if so why isn't it common knowledge? I have scoured the internet and cant get a straight answer!!

Hey catseatdogs!

I understand you're having some trouble with AirPlay, and I'd be happy to help. To address your core concern, there shouldn't be any intentional reason that AirPlay isn't working on the iOS 9.3.5; in fact, keeping software up-to-date is one of the best ways to prevent problems like this from occurring. I know you mentioned that the AirPlay button isn't appearing, and this step isn't going to affect anything on the iPad itself, but make sure your Apple TV is running the most current tvOS version: Update the software on your Apple TV - Apple Support

With that updating (or if it's already up-to-date), try each of the steps recommended here:

If you don't see AirPlay options in Control Center or a message says, "Looking for Apple TV"

When an AirPlay enabled device is available, you see AirPlay options in Control Center on your iOS device. To open Control Center, swipe up from the bottom of your screen. If you're trying to mirror your iOS device, tap Screen Mirroring User uploaded file. If you're trying to AirPlay audio, press deeply or touch and hold the audio card in the upper-right corner and tap User uploaded file.

If you still can't find AirPlay options or you see a "Looking for Apple TV" message, follow these steps:

  1. Restart your iOS device, Apple TV, or other AirPlay enabled device.
  2. If your Apple TV uses Ethernet,* check that the cable is plugged into the router that you use for Wi-Fi.
  3. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and check that you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or other AirPlay enabled device.
  4. Check the Wi-Fi network on your Apple TV or other AirPlay enabled device. On Apple TV 4K and Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi and make sure that you're connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
  5. On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on in Settings > AirPlay.
  6. If you still need help, contact Apple Support.

* If your Apple TV is in Sleep mode and uses Ethernet, you need to wake your Apple TV with a remote before you can AirPlay content.

Hi name_nick. In iOS 9, AirPlay only appears in Control Center when an Apple TV is detected. So, your iPad is not detecting your Apple TV on the network.

What model Apple TV do you have?

Which Apple TV software version?

Have you tried restarting the router?

Is Apple TV on the same WiFi network? IP address differers only in the last octet?

Try getting the free Fing app for your iPad and scan the network. If Fing can see Apple TV, your iPad should be able to see it.

What year and model Mac do you have?

Only certain Macs can use the AirPlay feature.

Although if your particular Mac can't do Apple’s native AirPlay function, there are third party apps that will give you AirPlay capability to Macs that are not AirPlay compatible.

There are a few third party apps that you can use on older, non-compatible Macs.

On my late 2009 iMac, I use a pay app called AirServer.

I can AirPlay my iPad 2, iPad Pro and my 6th gen iPod Touch to my older iMac, now!

the problem appeared even earlier than the upgrade. Some of the apps were not able to mirror and the airplay icon dissapeared from netflix and hbo apps.

The next thing I noticed was the whole screen part mirroring missing from Control Centre (picture).

All guides and instructions about this topic are advising how to customise the Control Centre, but in iPad 2 this cannot be done, so it is a bit of a pickle!!!

Just to remind, Chromecast seems to be working fine from all of the apps, so this is merely Apple TV problem.

And if you might ask, all of the devices are upgraded, booted, powered on and working just fine.

I have a similar issue.

I have an iPad 2 MC769LL/A running 9.3.5. I have an Apple TV 3rd generation A1469 running 7.2.2. For some reason on this iPad it doesn't display the Apple TV in the room. If I go to Airplay, the list will populate but this Apple TV does not appear on the list. It shows other Apple Apple TVs in the same network. Both devices are in the same room, both devices are getting any IP address, on the iPad I can access the internet, using another Phone I can see this Apple TV.

I have done the following:

Forget the Network and rejoined the Wifi on both devices.

Restarted both devices

Reset the network settings on the iPad

Renamed the Apple TV

Disabled Airplay password

Turned OFF and ON Airplay on Apple TV

The user was able to use the same iPad and Apple TV once before. I am not sure what changed or why it no longer works. I understand the iPad is an outdated model but it did work at some point in the past.

What am I missing?
