new Burn DVD apps vs. iDVD
I need a good Burn DVD app and my new iMac is suspiciously devoid of iDVD, what do you suggest?

As you've found there is no app that is as versatile as iDVD. Toast only burns video files and does a good job of it.
If you want to use photos and make a slideshow from them you'll need two try a different app. DVD
Maker Pro can do slideshows from image files and has a number of slideshow themes/types to choose from. It's available from the App Store. The free version puts a water mark on the projects.
am i wrong?
Yes. Because iDVD has been discontinued and unsupported for several years now and there are some themes that do not work with the later systems. iDVD also has some encoding issues which have plagued users recently.
If you go ahead and get the iLife disc be sure to get the iLife 09 disk as that's the only way you'll get all of the themes for iDVD.
Personally if I had to change and spend money now I'd look at the paid version of DVD Maker Pro @ $14.95.
I'm using the Cisdem DVD Burner to create my home DVD. You can try it.
see Klaus's article here
I'm not experienced in FCP, but early on when I supported multi-media staff on Mac it seemed like Roxio Toast was the most flexible.

bought DVD Maker Pro, it works some of the time, is really painfully slow and sometimes crashes altogether. when it works, it's great, does the job. i'm looking for something a little more reliable or at least try to determine why the crashing. i did have to change the setting for new DVD to default to the program as the text box kept coming up but that didn't solve the crashing.
Thanks, Jimmy...i read this article already and was checking out iLife on Amazon and reading the reviews, but wondering if going back in time to iDVD is the answer or is a 3rd party burn app just as good? or FCPX? just wondering what others had experienced in this regard.
Thanks!
My plan, unless another is uncovered, is to buy a version of iLife with iDVD and re-install as mentioned in Klaus' post. if nothing really compares to iDVD, why bother with something else. am i wrong?
I will be more precise: I'm digitizing videotape to create edited DVD's. Currently, I'm using Elgato video capture to digitize to mp4, bringing the file into iMovie to edit and needing a DVD creator app to make a playable DVD. DVD Maker Pro works part of the time but crashes and takes a long time to create. is there an easier way to accomplish my goal, this all seems a bit cumbersome. am i making more work for myself than necessary? Does FCPX handle all this?
Cisdem sent me a response saying they don't support Apple's ProRes format, which (as I understand it) is what we should choose from Share/Quality to have the Best quality export in a .mov file. Have you found this limitation to be detrimental to your DVD quality?

OK, that's what i needed to know. Thanks!
I bought Cisdem’s dvd burner software but the dvd it created won’t mount on my imac, Windows 10, or a tv via attached dvd player. Any ideas why this result? Any tips appreciated.
