Why won't my MacBook Pro (Model A1502 EMC 2875) turn on?

The screen and keyboard are backlit, but nothing appears.

I'm not sure with OS I have, but I think Sierra. I hoped it was a software issue, I just want to see if there are any suggestions before I try a recovery (or ultimately give up).

If I use an HDMI to a different monitor, the Apple and loading bar appear on the second monitor, but then disappear after a second. The caps lock button still toggles with a green light so the keyboard can at least understand me still.

A Dangerous History:

I spilled coffee on the laptop about a year ago. The screen fizzled out a few minutes later, but after letting it air out overnight, everything worked just fine with zero problems.

I use this laptop everyday, but last week I opened it to this empty blue/grey screen. I rebooted it a dozen times and still nothing. After a few hours of not checking on it, it was up and running again. It fizzled out that afternoon, but again ran just fine a few hours later—and for the rest of the week.

Yesterday when I got to work, it wasn't working and now it's been a full 24 hours without this laptop working.

I can't think of anything new that I've done. I may have installed the second latest update, but other than that, not much. My current theory is that my laptop gets too cold.
