Logic Pro 9.x

Is there any way to allow Logic Pro 9.x to work on High Sierra? Apple should have been more forthcoming about the fact that the upgrade would mess this very expensive app up. Even windows has an upgrade tools that tells you what will and wont work....I thought Macs were supposed to "just work"

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated before i consider upgrading to Logic Pro X

Thanks

Logic 9.1.8 was the last incremental update to Logic 9 and came out on 24th October, 2012.

July of the following year (16th July 2013) saw the release of Logic X where Apple ceased support for Logic 9 completely. It was only really 'luck' that 9.1.8 worked for as long as it did over several major OS updates and it was well published when Logic X came out that Logic 9 support ceased.

It's been 5 years since 9.1.8 and I think it has finally stopped working with High Sierra. Since Logic 9 first came out in July of 2009 I think 8 years is a pretty good lifespan for software version.

Hey which mac pro do you have? Im in the same situation with a 2010 Mac Pro 6 core 3.3 gig. Sierra works fine but don't make any further os upgrades? The mac pro has 2 hard drives so can you use one for logic and have high sierra on the other? Cheers all.

If Sierra/Logic is working well, I'd hold back. On older machines... Sierra and Logic pro-X take a lot of graphics power, those I know with older machines have upgraded their video cards.

Phillips,

Is there some reason that you need High Sierra? Apple has trained it's users to keep upgrading no matter what.. Why? Because Apple is a hardware company that makes 97% of their profits on hardware, Logic used to cost $999 before Apple purchased it now it's $200 with an incredible amount of free loops, instruments etc. If you keep upgrading, Apple makes more money, it's an upgrade train with boxcars full of $$$. Eventually the OS and app software needs more powerful machines..$$. Everyone forgets that hit Movies were scored on dual processor ppc machines.. good music doesn't require the latest and greatest.

Funny, Apple used to brand PC users as automated.

There are plenty of older applications that I can use on my Mac but they are not apps that are made by Apple so I will not be given them money. Also, my biggest problem is that they did not give me any warning that my logic would not longer work. Even Microsoft has an upgrade guide to let you know apps that may not work. It would be nice if they provided a discounted update for those who have the previous version of Logic...thats all.

I understand, you would've had to do a little research to find that out, it's not a caution they put on the download.

Since Logic stability and efficiency is important to me I turn off all auto-upgrades in System Preferences, my computer does not upgrade software unless I tell it to and I'm picky about what I choose to upgrade. I usually check this board and a couple others to see what kind of problems early upgraders have.
