Sounds like a pop up. You're safe to close the window. They just want you to install their software and then you'd actually be infected.

To be safe, I'd download Malwarebytes for Mac. It's free. Run a scan to see if there are any issues, but it sounds just like adware.

It's a scam. For money and stealing your information.

Some times they can really take over the browser, although not as much as in the past.

When I'm on some video sites, the popups do that a lot.

It's bogus. Force quit Safari and start a new session by holding shift before you click the Safari icon.

How to force a Mac app to quit

1. Choose Force Quit from the Apple () menu, or press Command-Option-Esc. This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC.
2. Select the app in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.
