after updating to iOS 11.2 i am facing a strange issue with the taptic engine on my iPhone X. when ever i dismiss control centre the taptic engine produces a clicky metallic sound and some goes with whenever i dismiss reachability.

Hey everyone! i am here with a good news. My father got his iPhone X today (came with ios 11.1.2 out of the box) there were no issues with the taptic engine. I than updated it to ios 11.2 to test further and just after updating it had the same issue with the taptic engine. So this is a software bug.
Thank you for the info. I made also a strange discovery. When you slide up the control center where the home button should be the taptic engine reacts. When you slide it up more upwards, the Taptic Engine doesn’t react.
I have the same problem. Try downloading the app “iMassage u” its an app the makes your phone vibrate. I downloaded it to explore if this problem appears anywhere else. This app makes the sound reliably. If it does the same for you then we probably have the same problem. It also appears when you make your own vibration patterns for notifications. Please let me know if it does the same for you!

Last night I swiped up to the app switcher and the haptic feedback seemed different, maybe a stronger, and I heard a strange noise with it. Hard to explain but almost like a squeak. It happened a couple of times and was clear that it was somehow malfunctioning.
After that haptic feedback has been much weaker and softer, working but barely noticeable. Not just on swiping up, but setting toggle switches etc too.
Sometimes other times the haptic feedback seems normal, so I hope it’s just a weird software bug. Either that, or there are more than one vibration generating components inside, and some but not all are failing

I just downgraded to ios 11.1.2 and the weird bug is gone. Im not even sure if its a bug. But the sound of this Taptic Engine did not fell or sound right. Will wait for a further update to solve this issue. I just hope, i don't face any issues because of the downgrade lol.

I have the same problem. After updating my iPhone X to iOS 11.2, closing the control panel by sliding upwards emits a vibration louder than normal, like a thump. Quite annoying
yes! does that sound like metallic and please try the same with reachability and inform if it exists there too

Got the same issue. Is this a software bug or a hardware issue folks? And did someone try to downgrad to a lower ios version? Or just leave it?
yes some times with control centre taptic engine stops working at all. than i have to reboot the phone and it starts functioning
Just checked it out. Zero flex anywhere on the display.
same sound every where when u tap with a finger on display or there is a different tone in the middle of display
Everywhere the same. I dont hear any difference on my mobile.
