iPod doesn't seem to be working

So my iPod was working just fine yesterday, but then it just stopped all of a sudden, mid-song too. I tried resetting holding the menu and centre buttons together a number of times but that didn't work, and when I plug it into my laptop it doesn't even show up in my itunes, or the list of usb devices connected to the computer in my system information at all.


Of course, I went to the url mentioned, but they no longer seem to have any support for this model of iPod, which is understandable.


On the inside, when trying to start it up, I can hear some kind of a whirring scratching kinda noise, so I think maybe it's a hard drive problem? But I don't know.
