sync Photos to iPhone 8

My pictures are not syncing properly from iTunes and/or Apple Photos to my new iPhone 8 Plus / iOS 11.2 that's been restored from a prior iCloud backup. I use Apple Photos to manage all my pics. After setting up new iPhone 8 Plus, the pictures/albums that were on my iPhone 6 / iCloud backup weren't on the new iPhone 8 Plus, so I began looking at my iTunes and Apple Photos sync options/settings. Here's how I've always managed syncing pictures to my iPhones in the past: After taking pictures with my iPhone, I do a wired sync to my MacBook Pro and download all new phone pics to the Apple Photos software. When syncing to Apple Photos, I select the option to delete all new pics from the phone after the sync. Then, if there are any great photos that I absolutely want on my phone, I move those pictures into one of my designated "greatest hits" photo albums. Then, on the iTunes Photos tab, I've selected "Sync Photos" at the top of the screen, then "Copy photos from Photos Library," then "Selected Folders." All of my Apple Photos Albums are displayed in iTunes Photos, which allows me to choose only my "Greatest Hits" albums, so to speak. That way, the phone's Photo stream keeps the most recent pics on my phone and my favorite pictures are also in those chosen albums on my phone, which helps me to find pics on my phone easily and also helps to manage the amount of phone storage space taken up by pics. Here's the current problem: When I select the "Sync Photos" on the iTunes Photos tab, my only drop down option under "Copy photos from" is the "Pictures" folder under my Favorites menu. The problem with this is that my Photos Library is under the Pictures Folder and the Photos Library is greyed out so that it can't be selected and so the Sync Photos is not allowing me to select the Photos Library. Thus, the phone doesn't "see" those photos and can't sync my target albums. All of my pictures are visible in Apple Photos so I know they're (and the Photos Library) are there and working fine. Please help me to get my chose Apple Photos Albums synced onto my iPhone 8 - thank you!

Hi odyssey95,

I understand that, when trying to sync photos from your Photos Library to your iPhone, that you're not able to choose your Photos Library as the source in iTunes. A good place to start here would be removing the folder named "iPod Photo Cache" from within your Photos Library, as detailed below. Once you've removed this folder, quit iTunes and relaunch it, then try again.

If you sync from a Photos, iPhoto, or Aperture library, find the Photo Cache folder in its default location:

  1. In the Finder menu, choose Go > Home.
  2. In the Pictures folder, find the Photos Library, iPhoto Library, or Aperture Library file.User uploaded file
  3. Control- or right-click the file, then choose Show Package Contents.
    User uploaded file
  4. To remove the iPod Photo Cache or Apple TV Photo Cache folder, drag it to the Trash.
Don't change or remove any other file this window. If you do, you might lose data or corrupt your photo library.
  5. Close the window.

If you're still unable to choose your Photos Library, the next step would be to repair your library by following the steps outlined in the article linked below.
