“Markup as PDF” is not showing

So I’ve been told that you can now markup website pages, emails, and other cool things with the ”markup as PDF” option.

I have updated both my iPad and iPhone to iOS 11.2, but the selection still does not come up.

The current order is

Add to Reading List, Add Bookmark, Add to Favorites, Copy, Add to Home Screen, Print, Request Desktop Site, Find on Page, Create PDF, and More.

From screen shots I’ve seen around several websites, the “Markup as PDF” should be the third selection, after Request Desktop Site and Find on Page.

How can I add this to mine?

I just got a new Apple Pencil, and if I can make this work it would definitely improve my work process.

Hi joe_7399,

Thanks for your response. This post is exactly what I want to do in Safari.

In Safari, you’ll find a specific Markup as PDF option in the Share sheet. This work on both the iPhone and iPad. It will convert the current page to a PDF and you’ll be able to mark it up using your finger or the Apple Pencil. Again, you’ll get the familiar Instant Markup UI here which means you can add text, arrows, shapes, and doodle quite easily.

Just Share or save the PDF after you’re done annotating.

Hope this clarifies!

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities hannah_mikami,

If I'm understanding your post right, you're wanting to use Markup in applications that offer it as part of the Share options but aren't seeing "Markup as PDF" listed. Being able to use Markup with apps like Safari and Notes is a really awesome feature of iOS 11, so I can certainly understand why you would want this working. I'm happy to help you out!

The steps you take to markup an item depends on which app you're using. For Safari, you'll want to select the Share option and then select Create PDF. Next, select the Markup tool User uploaded file from the upper-right corner of the screen. When you're done marking up the PDF, select Done > Save File to > select a location > Add. To use Markup with emails, check out the steps in Use Markup in Mail on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch . The Markup tool can also be used in the Notes app and you should see the option at the bottom of an open note. View more info about writing notes by hand here: Write a note by hand .

There are many different options to choose from when using Markup. You can view more on these options in the Use Markup section of the iPhone User Guide:

Use Markup

In apps including Notes, Mail, and iBooks, you can annotate images, notes, PDFs, screenshots, and more with built-in drawing tools. In some apps, you can also add text, speech bubbles and other shapes, and signatures.

Mark it up. Tap User uploaded file, then use your finger to draw.

To mark up a screenshot right after you take it, tap the thumbnail that appears for a few moments in the bottom-left corner of the screen. (To share a screenshot after you mark it up, tap User uploaded file.)

Choose a markup tool. Tap the pencil, marker, or pen tool. Switch to the eraser—or tap User uploaded file—if you make a mistake.

Move your drawings. Tap User uploaded file, drag around one or more drawings to make a selection, lift your finger, then drag your selection to a new location.

View more color choices. Tap the current color to view a color palette. Swipe the palette left or right to see more colors. Or, hold iPhone in landscape orientation.

Zoom in. Pinch open so you can draw the details, then pinch closed to zoom back out. To navigate when you’re zoomed in, drag two fingers.

Add text. Tap User uploaded file, then tap Text. Tap the text box, tap Edit, then type your text. To change the font or layout, tap User uploaded file. To move the text box, drag it.

Add your signature. Tap User uploaded file, then tap Signature.

Add a shape. Tap User uploaded file, then tap a shape. To move the shape, drag it. To resize it, drag any blue dot.

To fill the shape with color or change the line thickness, tap User uploaded file. To adjust the form of a shape that has a green dot, drag the dot. To delete or duplicate a shape, tap it then choose an option.

Magnify a portion of the screen. Tap User uploaded file, then tap Magnifier. To change the magnification level, drag the green dot. To change the size of the magnifier, drag the blue dot.
