why is my outgoing email server (offline)?

I'm using OS X El Captan. Having issue with outgoing mail server, which is an imap. In setting it indicates that the outgoing mail server: with my email address, is (Offline). not sure why or how to get this back on lone. Please help!

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Actually, IMAP would be your incoming mail server for your email client. SMTP would be the outgoing server.


Regardless, which email provider are you having this issue with? I am assuming that you are using the Mail app on your Mac to access this email account ... correct? If so, what happens when you try to access your account using a web browser instead? What have you tried, so far, to resolve this yourself?
