I like to play World of Tanks and installed it on my MacBook Pro 2017. To save space I installed Windows 10 BootCamp on an external SSD and installed Wold of Tanks. The graphics performance was much better. How can this possibly be?

if you compare a game in macos wit a game in windows in terms of performance, then likely
it's down to NVidia and amd do a lot of optimization for games in the windows drivers,
and their macos drivers would be optimized for max stability.
Yes but would that be faster than the internal SSD HD? How would that increase the graphics performance dramatically? If it’s to do with Windows 10 vs Sierra High then this lwill interest Apple! Wonder if I could get Apple to test this in controlled environment?
Yes it is possible. I’ve got an external ssd and it works a treat. Now I use windows 10 for game play time (it’s a bigger drive and as rudgar has said, it seems better drivers on Windows) and OS for serious stuff! I can’t remember off hand how I did it though but there’s a walk through i’ll try to find, that worked for me.
The Mac year/model also influences if you can run Windows on an external disk. Officially, external disk installations are only supported under Windows-to-Go under Windows Enterprise.
The faster your external connection, the better. TB2/TB3 is much better than USB3/USBc.

Hello Loner T. It’s USB Type C. The performance increase is with the Windows 10 installation. Must be something to do with Sierra High It’s a big difference.
It is a Thunderbolt connection, it can be running at 10/20/40 Gbps. If it is USB3, it should be at 5Gbps, and should very closely match the SATA 3 speeds.
Can you confirm that you are able to boot into windows 10 from external SSD on 2017 MBP? If so how? I have the same machine with the Radeon gnu.

I've seen some forums noting that it can be done using ssd/tbolt. Which have you done now or in the past?
On most Macs, the TB connection allows the external disk to be seen as a PCIe device. You should verify this by running
diskutil info /dev/diskN
where N points to the disk.
