Hi, I have this problem with the iPhone 6s and iPhone X for a while. Unlikely it’s a phone issue but software issue.
When I press the up/down volume button, the volume indicator shows up as usual, but it doesn’t show the bar indicating increasing or deceasing(attached pic). This occurs only at the home page. Volume is working fine. Anyone can help?
Check: Settings>Sounds&Haptics>Change with buttons... ON
Force restart your iPX, following these steps:
On an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

Is this when you're looking at the display? It might be due to the attention aware features.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Tried what you mention but I don’t think it is. Now it’s working fine though. This error happens on and off and it’s quite irritating.
