weather widget not updating

Hi,

My iPhone X was recently upgraded to iOS 11.2 and since then the weather widget has many times does not update the weather information even though I have an active Internet connection.

Even after I tapped on the weather widget and then go back to the widget (from the iOS Weather app); the weather information in the widget is still not updated. The information in the iOS Weather app is always updated though. This appears to be a random and sporadic issue.

Any idea what happened and how do I solve this? Thanks!

Hello cybercwk,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having some trouble with your Weather widget, and I have some information that may help.

Try the steps below to see if they get your widget working again.

1 - Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any available update.
2 - Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Weather and choose: Always or While Using the App
3 - Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Background App Refresh: Wi-Fi & Mobile Data
4 - Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Weather: On

Open the Weather application and confirm if the forecast loads expectedly within a few seconds.

If you run into any trouble, or if the symptoms persist, please reach out again.
Best Regards.

This is a common issue, see Weather widget not working on ios 11

Not sure if it's been elevated to a "Bug" but a few of us hope so. I have experienced the issue since moving to iOS 11 and haven't found a solution that sticks yet, the strange thing is the Widget will work fine for hrs or even a few days the suddenly decide to "freeze up", then when returning hrs later it's up and running again.

If I leave Notification Centre open for a while it usually updates, but that is rather defeating the object, also another Widget has had the same issue, so it could be linked to Location Services somehow!

Long story short, think it will require Apple to resolve in future point update and all we can do at moment is ignore and hope it works when needed.
